New York Alcohol Certification Course
New York Alcohol Certification website is PBSA's newest website. This online alcohol training course is the first and only online alcohol course that is approved by the New York State Liquor Authority.
The Alcohol Training Awarenes Program (ATAP) was developed with the help of the Empire State Restaurant Association (ESRA) and is recognized throughout New York.
Responsible alcohol certification is not currently mandated in New York, but many liquor liability insurance companies are making it mandatory for the bars to maintain their liquor liablility insurance.
The two main benefits for New York servers of alcohol of taking and passing the 4-hour online course are:
1. The course will teach you what you can and can't do as a server of alcohol and this should help you when you are in a situation that requires you to make a difficult decision. Any server of alcohol has probably already faced that situation at least once.
2. Having this certification makes you more marketable to the upscale restaurants and bars that require all of their staff to have state-approved alcohol certification. Many bars will hire a recent bartending school graduate with alcohol certification over an experienced bartender with no alcohol certification.
PBSA schools offer the three main alcohol service programs in different cities. Tips, Servsafe and Learn2serve are all quality programs. Any server of alcohol should attend one of these courses and get certified for their own protection.
